Popular Architectural Home Styles
Coastal
Style Description:
Coastal houses are designed to brave elements of Coastal living while appearing bright and airy. This is achieved by mixing solid block construction, metal roofs, Impact windows, durable stucco exterior finish, all while incorporating coastal elements, making the home feel open and breezy. Open floor plans are ordained with numerous windows throughout the home allowing air to move freely.
Mediterranean
Style Description:
Mediterranean homes are typically characterized by having a clay tiled roof, as well as stucco that's often painted a light color. Doors, windows and balconies are typically darker in color and often walls are accentuated with stone details, and wrought iron metalwork. The interior customarily includes ornate tile also.
Modern/ Contemporary
Style Description:
Modern homes are often poured concrete structures or post and beam structures, with wide flat or broad low-pitched asymmetrical gable roofs. They are known for their bi-level, open floor plans and typically include the use of floor-to-ceiling windows. Due to the inherent atypical interior and exterior finishes with large glass panels and tall ceilings, this structure typically costs more per square foot than most home structures.
Traditional
Style Description:
Traditional style homes use common building materials such as frame construction, wood or composite siding, modest sized windows and asphalt shingle roofs. Features include dormers and gables, formal foyer, and classic American styling.
Mission/ Arts & Crafts
Style Description:
Mission style houses incorporate simple, adobe stucco siding. The gable or parapet tile roofs are adorned with broad, overhanging eaves and exposed rafters. They often include arched entries and deep set windows and the classic color combination of dark wood and natural clay tile roofs with smooth exterior walls that are almost always painted white.
Craftsman
Style Description:
Craftsman style homes are built with natural materials such as wood, stone and brick. Large front porches are covered and adorned with tapered columns. The roofs of these homes are low-pitched and include overhanging eaves with exposed beams or corbels. Internal features include things such as built in cabinets, window seats and a grand fireplace, often a central feature of the living room.
